Behavioral mock interviews with an AI interviewer
Behavioral interviews ask about real situations from your past: a conflict, a failure, a hard decision. The interviewer wants evidence of how you actually work, so vague or rehearsed-sounding answers score poorly, and so do stories where "we" did everything and it's unclear what you did.
Reading lists of questions only gets you so far; you need to say your stories out loud and get pushed on the details. PrepLinx's AI interviewer asks a behavioral question, listens to your answer, then follows up until it has the specifics: what you did, why, and what happened. Questions are tailored to your role, so a product manager hears about stakeholders and a data engineer about pipeline failures.
What this round tests
Ownership
Taking responsibility for outcomes, including the ones that went wrong.
Collaboration and conflict
Working through disagreement with peers, managers and other teams.
Judgment under pressure
How you decide with incomplete information or a hard deadline.
Adaptability
How you learn from mistakes and respond to change.
Communication
Structured, specific answers that get to the point.
Practice questions
Examples of the questions and follow-ups you can expect. Practice saying your answers out loud, not just reading them.
- Tell me about a time you disagreed with your manager. What did you do?
- Describe a project that failed. What would you do differently?
- Tell me about a decision you made with incomplete information.
- Give an example of influencing someone you had no authority over.
- What's the most critical feedback you've received, and what did you do with it?
- Describe a time you had to deliver under a tight deadline.
How a PrepLinx session works
- 1
Choose the round
Pick the role, the interview type and a difficulty (easy, medium or hard). Optionally add a job profile with your resume and the job description, so the questions relate to that job.
- 2
Interview out loud
The AI interviewer speaks, listens to your answers and asks follow-ups. It doesn't give hints or say whether you're right, just like the real thing. The session runs up to 30 minutes.
- 3
Get scored feedback
A report with a 0–10 score for each dimension the round is graded on, strengths quoted from your own words, weaknesses, concrete improvements and an overall hiring signal, plus the full transcript.
How to prepare
Use STAR, weighted toward Action
Situation and Task in a couple of sentences, most of your time on what you did, then a concrete Result.
Say "I", not "we"
Interviewers need to know your part. Credit the team, but be specific about your own actions.
Prepare six to eight flexible stories
A handful of strong stories, each touching several themes (conflict, failure, leadership), can answer almost any behavioral question.
Quantify the result
"Cut deploy time from 40 minutes to 12" lands harder than "made deploys faster".
Expect the follow-up
Have an answer ready for "what would you do differently?". A thoughtful answer shows self-awareness.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to use the STAR method?
It isn't required, but the feedback is built around it: you're scored on how you describe the situation, the actions you took and the results, plus leadership and collaboration, judgment and self-awareness, and how clearly you communicated.
Will it ask about my actual experience?
Yes, if you add a job profile with your resume and the job description. The interviewer then relates its questions to your background and the role.
How long is a behavioral session?
Up to 30 minutes, usually enough for several questions with follow-ups.
Are the questions different for each role?
Yes. Behavioral practice is available for software engineer, product manager, data scientist, machine learning engineer and data engineer roles, and each focuses on the situations that role faces.
