Product sense mock interviews with an AI interviewer
Product sense, also called product design, tests your judgment as a product manager. You get a prompt like "design a product for X" or "how would you improve Y", and the interviewer judges how you get from an open question to a focused, well-argued proposal: who it's for, what problem it solves, why this solution, and how you'd know it worked.
PrepLinx's AI interviewer runs the round out loud and pushes on the points that separate good answers from great ones: why this segment, what you'd cut, what number would tell you it worked. Sketch user journeys or wireframes on the whiteboard, and the interviewer will ask about them.
What this round tests
User empathy
Grounding the answer in a specific user and a real pain point.
Problem framing
Clarifying the goal and narrowing the problem before solving it.
Prioritization
Choosing between ideas against a clear, stated criterion.
Product intuition
Solutions that are specific, feasible and actually solve the problem.
Metrics
Defining success with concrete targets and guardrails.
Communication
A structured answer that's easy to follow.
Practice questions
Examples of the questions and follow-ups you can expect. Practice saying your answers out loud, not just reading them.
- Design a product that helps elderly people manage their medications.
- How would you improve a professional networking app for people looking for jobs?
- Design a product that helps remote teams celebrate wins.
- What's a product you love, and how would you improve it?
- Design a feature that reduces no-shows for restaurant reservations.
- How would you measure the success of the feature you just proposed?
How a PrepLinx session works
- 1
Choose the round
Pick the role, the interview type and a difficulty (easy, medium or hard). Optionally add a job profile with your resume and the job description, so the questions relate to that job.
- 2
Interview out loud
The AI interviewer speaks, listens to your answers and asks follow-ups. It doesn't give hints or say whether you're right, just like the real thing. The session runs up to 30 minutes.
- 3
Get scored feedback
A report with a 0–10 score for each dimension the round is graded on, strengths quoted from your own words, weaknesses, concrete improvements and an overall hiring signal, plus the full transcript.
How to prepare
Clarify the goal
Ask what the company wants (growth, engagement, revenue) before you pick a user.
Choose one segment and say why
Depth on one user beats a list of five.
List pain points, then prioritize
Name several problems and pick one for a stated reason, such as frequency, severity or reach.
Compare solutions before choosing
Propose two or three ideas and pick one against your criterion.
Close with metrics and a recap
A success metric, a guardrail, and a 20-second summary of your recommendation.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between product sense and product strategy?
Product sense is about users and the product: design or improve something for a specific user. Product strategy is about the business: markets, competition, growth and where to invest. PrepLinx has a separate round for each.
Can I use frameworks like CIRCLES?
Yes, if they help you stay organized. The interviewer scores your reasoning, not the framework, and a framework recited mechanically tends to score worse than a clear, natural structure.
Can I draw wireframes?
Yes. Sketch on the whiteboard and ask the interviewer to take a look. It reads your drawing and asks about it.
How long is a session?
Up to 30 minutes.
